Can Fly Fishing Tippet Be Substituted With Regular Fishing Line?

Question by Ashley: Can fly fishing tippet be substituted with regular fishing line?
I ran out of tippet and i dont want to run out to the store to buy more and i have plenty of regular fishing line.

I would say it could be substituted with regular fishing line though I am not 100% sure. I have seen people with non-fly fishing rods actually fly fish before though so it shouldn’t be that bad. Though I would make sure it was a pretty low pound test so its not to heavy.

    i would say as long as it is a thin line it should be okay

    Yes as long as it isn’t something to stiff that can’t be straightened out to make better presentation and if it is too stiff it will stay coiled up and it will mess up your casting a little.
    just tie it on and pull to straighten it out sometimes if it is coiled up it will take a little work to straighten it out a bit.

    Sure you can. It won’t unfold as well, so I use it mostly with big bass lures. Keep to tippet for trout fishing 5x and under but for a temporary sub you can certainly get by with regular line.
